Subject: Payments of damages to Rosary Hill Red Cross

We wish to refer to your above-mentioned letter concerning the payment of damages caused at Rosary Hill in Hongkong during the period for which it was rented to our delegation as a Red Cross Home.

On receipt of your favour, we asked Mr.Zindel, our delegate, who had just returned to China, to let us know whether a settlement of the question occurred in the meantime. Mr. Zindel only returned at the end of February to Hongkong from a prolonged trip in the interior of China and wrote us on March 5th. We received his answer only a few days ago.

He informs us that the Rosary Hill is expedted to be wound up at the end of March and that he is taking all necessary steps to contact the competent Authorities in Hongkong, hoping to arrive to a suitable settlement on the spot. He will write us again very shortly and we shall not fail to keep you informed.

We would like to add that out Delegation rented Rosary Hill from the Spanish Dominican Fathers for British account and with British funds. Repairs to the Home shortage of or damage to Furniture and Fittings during the Lease- Agreement time were for British Account.

Owing to the fact that Mr. Zindel was not aware whether the financial responsibility should be assumed individual- ly by the War Office, the Colonial Office, the Hongkong Govern- ment or the British Red Cross he did not mention the B.R.C. should assume the cost of repairs and replacements but that thẻ British Authorities should do so.
